Marc-Andre LeClerc Moved in The Mountains Like No One Else

When you’re in the mountains, with a mission, it’s like all of the superficialities of life just sort of evaporate, and you can often find yourself in a deeper state of mind, and that can stick with you for a while after a big climb.

You appreciate everything so much, that you take for granted most of the time. It’s kind of funny. The actual achievement doesn’t really change your life, like you think it might, but what you’re left with is the journey that got you to that point.

He doesn’t even care if anyone knows what he’s climbing
— Alex Honnold

In the days of social media, instant gratification and internet vanity, it’s so beautiful to remember that Marc Andre LeClerc lived the life that he did. His level of artistry matched his technical prowess. Levels that a climber may never reach again or have the desire to reach again. If you don’t know the story of Marc-Andre LeClerc, do whatever you can to watch the Alpinist.

Marc-Andre free soloed mixed ice and rock routes. His climbing was art, and he was most definitely an artist. Watching Marc-Andre in this film gives me such a great appreciation for what he did and how he did it on his own terms. It was climbing for climbing’s sake, unbridled by fans, brands, companies, labels and anyone else’s expectations.
